A Plane For Exercising

All of a sudden Air NZ has teamed up with a fitness company called Les Mills to invent a plane where you can exercise while the plane flies.

By the beginning of next month the aeroplane will be available to have passengers, or should I say exercises. On the plane the exercisers will have access to meditation, all kinds of stretches etc.

The thing that people might think about this plane is that they will have to squish up in the aisles and stretch, but luckily they don't have to. Les Mills have come up with a way to exercise just sitting in your seat.

Being Cybersmart With Money

The consequences of purchasing online stuff and not knowing what to do. If you are not sure about a site and you want to buy off of it, you need to get someone who has bought stuff online or an experienced buyer. You need to know about online shopping or else you can get scammed, people can find out your financial information.

How do you know if you're secure?
If you're on a site with https// in the beginning, then that means the site you are on is SECURE. Another way is looking at the prices and comparing them with other ones. Even comparing the prices for the shipping and other prices included. There is a site called Price Spy where you can actually compare prices of things you want and see which is cheaper.

Rugby World Cup Update

In the weekends an awesome Rugby Union match occurred in the quarter-finals. It was All Blacks vs Ireland, they played against each other to see who would play in the semi-finals. But, sadly for Ireland they lost by 34 points, if I'm right. The scores were 46-14, the game was exciting with tries here and tries there.

Hopefully Ireland had a good time versing All Blacks. Soon the All Blacks will play in the semi-finals versing England which they easily beat Australia. The All Blacks had fun and were happy they won that game, but Ireland can try again next time.

Update from the Canada VS All Blacks, All Blacks Won.

The game was intense with long range drop goals and second half scores. It was going well for South Africa in the second half and it looked like they were going to come back strong, until All Blacks started scoring penalty goals.

Measles Outbreak

It's shocking how there are about 778 people that are infected by measles, while there are 937 infected nationwide. That means that all the measles are literally in Auckland, so if there were 778 in Auckland alone then there are 159 infected around the rest of New Zealand.

Please if you are aware if someone at your school, work or anywhere has started getting spots on their face to get them checked. It is important that you make sure that you get vaccinated.

Recording

Step 1
I used a pencil and a ruler to make a full sized working drawing of my case holder because I need to see the what I am making. It also helps with making the right measurements.

Step 2
I used a ruler, pencil and to copy the measurements from my drawing onto the piece of wood. I used the ruler and pencil to put the measurements in the right place. Then used the tri-square to make sure that the measuring is straight.

Step 3  I marked a square line (at 90 degrees) across and along the side using a tri-square and a pencil.

Step 4 I cut off the first piece of wood using the saw and a bench hook.

Step 5

I then marked out the joints with a pencil and a tri-square.

Step 6
I then took the piece of wood to SIR to get my lines checked and then when he says it's alright, you can now saw it and then chisel the piece of wood out.

Step 7
I then glue the rest of wood back onto the joint and then leave it inside the vice until the glue hardens.

Step 8
Then we buffed it up a little and then pimped the sides to hide the piece of joints that were not together and make the joint stronger.

Tall Blacks Sadly Beaten Again

122 - 88.
Again Tall Blacks take the lost for another Basketball match against Canada. The game was going well for the Tall Blacks in the second half, but however that simply changed as it was coming to the end of the game. The opponent team was catching up by a lot and then suddenly over took them by heaps. It was a disappointing night for the Tall Blacks.

Next Game Is On Wednesday.

Black Out

Last night the G.I area had a blackout for like an hour. It was completely dark in my house and the streets as well.

So while I was playing games and doing stuff, the lights just shut off before my game finished. At first I just thought that my brothers were pulling a prank on me until the whole family had their flashlights on. The blackout carried on for an hour and then turned on just before 9:00 pm.

Biggest Parrot

There has been a recovery of fossils from a bird that was still alive 19 million years ago. Scientists have recognised the parrot fossils and said they belong to the "Heracles inexpectatus" bird itself.

The fossils were found in a place in Otago where all the other fossils of mysterious birds are at.

Kayaking!

Today my class and I, had a great day at Vector Wero Whitewater Park. Same place where we did rafting, but this time we did kayaking.
The instructors gave us guidance about how and what to do while in the water on our kayaks. When they were done we had a chance to experience it for ourselves. We all got suited up and put on our life jackets and helmet then headed out on the water to catch up with our instructors.

During the time we got to get used to moving the paddle. I accidentally tipped the kayak and into the water I went... It was freezing until I arrived at shore and there it became warmer. I was then welcomed with my kayak. I hopped into my kayak and carried on. I had fun and hopefully my classmates had fun too. I do hope we can go back sometime in the future.

NZ Has Started To Save Yellow - Eyed Penguins

There has been an announcement by the Minister Eugenie Sage at the Yellow - Eyed Penguin annual symposium. The announcement was about how the breeding of the Yellow - Eyed Penguins have not been breeding so well.

Some people are starting to say that it's important to look after and protect these penguins. Reason being, they are the birds on our $5 dollar note making them more significant than others.

Stop Energy Drinks

A Supermarket called Countdown has started to make an age restriction for energy drinks. So that means you have to be a certain age to buy energy drinks. From early September, people will have to be over 16 to buy energy drinks. Reason being is because there is just to much sugar and caffeine inside the drinks. Making kids go crazy.

Energy drinks are surely going to be missed by those who drink them. So if you are younger than 16, enjoy energy drinks while you can.

Lake Tekapo Up For A Name Change

One of the lakes in New Zealand, Lake Tekapo, is currently waiting to have a name change. Reason being, we have been spelling it wrong the whole time! We say and spell it "Lake Tekapo" when it is actually Lake Takapo.

It was confirmed by the mayor that it currently has no meaning or effect, so in that case the community supports a change to the name. The people of the community have said that it's the computer's fault for spelling Lake Takapo without the little maron.

In My Holidays

During the holidays I went to watch a movie in the City Cinemas. The movie we watched was Spiderman - Far From Home. It was a fun movie, I went with Kain and Jaden. It was a cool movie and it had the supervillain, Mysterio.

We were so busy watching the movie that we didn't realise what the time was. When we came out of the movie it was past 10 o'clock. Then we started running towards the train before the trains stopped running.

Then we arrived back at Glen Innes.

Cleaning Up Tamaki Estuary

Yesterday the whole school went on a field trip down to Dunkirk. We went down there because we were cleaning up the rubbish around our area. We found a bunch of rubbish and I was shocked at how much trash there was.

It was all around the field, in between rocks and hiding inside some bushes. Sadly we weren't able to pick it all up, but we managed to pick up all the trash we saw. We went with some guests from the Auckland Zoo and they talked about a lot of things.

Towards the end we had a chance to play on the playground. All the students were playing and it was crowded. Most of the students were rushing towards the slides and swings. I enjoyed cleaning up our area.

Friday Rafting

Last week Friday, Room 12 went on an exciting trip to Vector Wero Whitewater Park. It's a place where anyone can go to do some rafting or kayaking. By the looks on the students' faces we all had fun. On my raft were Kain, Tristan, Sione, Mario, Ethan (the tutor) and I.

I had a bad and very awesome time. The bad thing about the trip was putting on the wetsuit. It was like a mission to put it on, but eventually it slipped right on. After all I still had a good time. My favourite part about the trip was when we had the privilege of standing up while the raft goes down the river. It was awesome. I was sad when it was over though... I hope I get to go again another time.

Tech

At Tech we were with Mr Thompson, I finally chose to make a CD holder to put all my games in it.

I have chosen this item because I needed something to use as a storage holder for my CD's, so that they won't get lost. It has 4 slots and has a bottom piece to hold the PS4. I have to make it strong so that if it drops then it won't break.

Next week I'm going to carry on sawing the wood and chizzling it.

Plane Crash

Sadly in the weekend two pilots have died in a plane crash. It was confirmed that there were four extra parachutists on the plane and they jumped before the crash. The parachutists were lucky they did not stay any longer they could have been hurt or even died.

The incident was caused because the two pilots did not see each other and were trying to land. When they were about to land the two planes went right into each other causing a huge explosion and pieces of the plane falling.

I think that the parachutists were shocked when they heard that the plane they had jumped out of seconds ago, exploded.

Update From Rippa Rugby

For the last session, Coach Corey had a new activity for us. You had a chance to win a prize for your whole class. The prize was three rugby balls. To win the prize, the class has to pass to each other as quick as they could... but the class had to make two lines facing each other. Then we had to pass it in a zigzag formation to one another.

The class that won the prize was Rm9. They won by milliseconds! They had a time of 19.24 seconds and Rm10 had 19.38 seconds... so Rm9 was lucky. I was surprised that they won by milliseconds.

Rippa Rugby

Yesterday we had our last session for rippa rugby with coach Corey. It was sad knowing that whilst we were playing it was the last time playing with him. But, for the last session we played some new activities.

We played a game called "Over The River" and it's a fun game. There are two sides of the field with one team each. The aim of the game was to throw the ball across the river to the other side and try to get them out. If the ball touches the ground on the other side then the closest person to the ball is out, or if the ball falls in the river then the person throwing or kicking the ball is out.

I hope we get to see Coach Corey again and do some more rippa rugby with him.

First Tech Day With Sir Grundy

Yesterday all the Tech classes switched classes. My group moved to Mr Grundy's class.

For our first day with Mr Grundy, we learnt a lot of things about a wooden joint. A joint is two pieces of wood glued together strongly. Mr Grundy also wanted to present us with his train he made of pure wood. He had made an elephant to put it inside his little train.

We also had the chance of making up a design for ourselves. My design is........

Come back next week to find out what it is.

Teachers Go On Strike

Yesterday 50,000 teachers went to Auckland City to walk up Queen Street to protest for better pay and other conditions. Before they went marching up Queen Street some teachers had to organise where they were going to walk, so they can block up some roads so no drivers can go through.

Not only marching for a better pay, but the teachers were also protesting for more teachers. Reason being is because some teachers at Ruapotaka School has been saying that New Zealand needs more teachers. They are so worried because that because, if they are going to retire in the next few years then there will not be enough teachers to teach the children.

I think that if there will be no more teachers then there would be no more doctors, police, pilots and all other jobs. But, some people would think that being is a bad job, but what they don't know is that there would no other good jobs if there were no teachers to teach how to do that job.

Vaiaso O Le Gagana Samoa 2019 (SAMOAN LANGUAGE WEEK)

Monday 27th of May was the official beginning of Samoan Language week for 2019. There are Samoan events held across the whole of New Zealand. That means if you known some Samoan, share it with everyone. I'm going to attempt to write some sentences in Samoan.

Mt Cook Broke The Record

Not so long ago Mt Cook broke a record with the most people to visit the mountain. Mt Cook is the biggest mountain in New Zealand and during the past few years it has had a million people visit it. Nine years ago the Department of Conversation (DOC) upgrade around Mt Cook so that it can make it easier for the visitors. The DOC put more roads for cars, more passageways and put more toilets around the area.

I think that it's cool that a huge mountain hit 1 million reviews and I hope one day to visit it.

Welcome To Ruapotaka School

This morning, Ruapotaka School had a powhiri to welcome our guest from ERO. ERO is a company that visits schools to observe how they learn. ERO stands for Education Review Office community.

Our guests names were Richard and Pam. During the powhiri we greeted them with a few speeches by Tristan, Sosiua and myself... We also sang a couple of songs. Afterwards Richard had a go at speaking, but it was in his two languages. Maori and Samoan.

When the powhiri came to an end the guests and Mrs Hamilton gave us a hongi and a hand shake. All the teachers were impressed by the way we presented it and how it went as planned.

Kiwi Can

Today we had our first session of Kiwi Can. The tutors that were hosting it were Miss Tuia and Mrs Mac. There was supposed to be another tutor, Mr Matt but unfortunately he was away. Miss Tuia had rules such as, respect everyonedon't be shy give it a try , and the best of all have fun.

Room 12 played a game called Bang, where we get into a circle and introduce ourselves to the tutors. It was going well, then all of a sudden it turned into a game where one tutor would say a student's name and then they'd have to duck and the other two on the sides would have a race to see who would say bang first.

We had a lot of fun and also learnt some things about being honest, not cheating in games and other activities or events.

Cybersmart Learning

Image result for lock keyboardDo you know what being cybersmart is? It means you are safe on the internet and social media platforms.

When you're writing a comment or message, make it positive or helpful. Writing negative comments will do no one good.

Using a digital device means doing the right thing at the right time. As an addition to this you become a better learner. Being on the wrong thing at the wrong time will not help you at all!

Painting

Today for our third session at Tech with Miss Ferguson, we did some painting.

It was fun being able to learn how to mix colours to create more colours. I used a paintbrush to mix yellow and blue to make green. Then red and blue to make purple and etc. I also learnt that you only need the three primary colours to make the three secondary colours. So you don't have to waste money buying hundreds of colours.

Tones
We had some time to figure out what tones were before Miss Ferguson revealed to the group what it was. The thing about tones is that it's a bit harder than having to paint casually with the colours, but, you have to mix it to make it lighter, darker or leave it the way it is.

3D Oblique Sketching

Today was our second session of Technology with Miss Ferguson doing Graphics.

We learnt how to draw 3D squares, triangles and cylinders. Some of us already knew how to draw 3D shapes.

We also learnt some new words like parallel, tone and oblique. I learnt that parallel means two lines that are the same distance apart.

A skill I learnt while at tech was drawing straight lines but, as you can see I'm still getting there. I also mastered drawing tones. Tones are when you draw lightly, a bit darker, and then straight dark.

As you can see in the photo above, I have drawn a goldish coloured cube that has a sort of white yellow line in the middle.

Hosting The School Assembly

Yesterday we had our first school wide assembly of 2019 hosted by students, Leanah, Jessica, Tristan and I. We were the chosen ones but only because our teacher knew that we were not shy.

After singing the national anthem, we sang our version of the New Zealand National Anthem we made during our inquiry research. After that, the adults said their notices. Mrs Hamilton was talking about how we are going to have a sausage sizzle on Friday. The other teachers were talking about sports equipment being broken and how a student was using his initiative and brought a child back to school when this parents weren't home.

I was a little bit nervous, but when we were singing the nerves went away.

The First Day Back At Technicraft

Today was the first session of Technicraft of 2019.

Before leaving the school grounds, our teacher sorted us into groups that we were in last year. There were new year 7 students that were sorted into different groups. When the groups were ready we waited until the time was quarter to eleven to leave.

When we arrived at Tamaki College we had to wait for the teachers to take us to their classes. The teacher we were with was Miss Ferguson and she was the graphics teacher. In her class we did 2D drawing, like squares and triangles, then we had to insert our names and emails into Miss Ferguson's slide sheet.

Me! - Technology Lesson 1

Today we created a google drawing and added things we liked e.g., movies, characters. I put a bunch of things on my google drawing such as my favourite characters, cars, food and etc.
